Overview:
The Senior Embedded Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, integrating, and supporting embedded software and firmware for SIONYX's advanced imaging and electro-optical products. This role will work at the intersection of embedded software, image sensors, digital imaging, electronics, and product development to deliver high-performance, reliable solutions for demanding applications.
The Embedded Engineer V will participate throughout the product development lifecycle, from architecture and prototyping through verification, production, and sustaining engineering. This position requires strong technical problem-solving skills, the ability to work closely with cross-functional engineering teams, and a willingness to take ownership of complex technical challenges.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Provide strategic direction and technical leadership for the embedded software team.
· Collaborate with executive management to align software strategies with business goals.
· Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain embedded software and firmware for SIONYX imaging products.
· Develop software for microcontrollers, processors, and embedded computing platforms.
· Work closely with electrical, optical, FPGA, image-processing, mechanical, and systems engineers to develop integrated imaging solutions.
· Develop and maintain low-level drivers, board support packages, hardware interfaces, and embedded applications.
· Interface with image sensors, processors, memory, displays, and other electronic components.
· Develop software supporting digital imaging, image acquisition, camera control, and image-processing functionality.
· Work with hardware engineers during board bring-up and troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues.
· Develop and optimize embedded software for performance, memory utilization, power consumption, and real-time requirements.
· Diagnose and resolve complex software, firmware, and hardware integration issues.
· Participate in software and system architecture development and technical design reviews.
· Develop and execute unit, integration, system, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
· Create and maintain software documentation, design documentation, test plans, and technical specifications.
· Participate in code reviews and help establish software development standards and best practices.
· Collaborate with manufacturing and operations teams to support product introduction and production troubleshooting.
· Support sustaining engineering activities, including investigation and resolution of field and production issues.
· Evaluate new technologies and development tools that may improve product performance or engineering efficiency.
· Provide technical leadership and mentorship to less experienced engineers.
· Communicate technical issues, risks, status, and recommendations effectively to engineering leadership and cross-functional teams.
· Contribute to continuous improvement of software architecture, development processes, testing practices, and engineering tools.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Minimum of 10 years of experience with embedded software development.
· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
· 10+ years of professional experience in embedded software or firmware development.
· Strong programming experience in C and/or C++.
· Strong understanding of embedded systems and software/hardware interfaces.
· Experience developing software for microcontrollers, processors, or embedded Linux systems.
· Experience with embedded debugging and development tools.
· Experience with source control and modern software development practices.
· Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and hardware documentation.
· Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work independently and effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Education and Experience:
· Experience developing software for digital cameras, imaging systems, image sensors, or electro-optical products.
· Experience with CMOS image sensors and image acquisition systems.
· Experience with image-processing pipelines or computer vision.
· Experience with ARM-based processors and microcontrollers.
· Experience with embedded Linux.
· Experience working on a Qualcomm platform.
· Experience with real-time operating systems such as FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or similar.
· Experience with FPGA/embedded processor integration.
· Experience with interfaces such as MIPI CSI-2, SPI, I2C, UART, USB, Ethernet, CAN, or similar.
· Experience with Python or other scripting languages for development and automated testing.
· Experience with Git and CI/CD development environments.
· Experience with bootloaders, firmware updates, secure boot, or embedded cybersecurity.
· Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing and automated test environments.
· Experience developing products from prototype through production.
· Experience working in a startup or fast-paced product development environment.
· 10+ years of experience in the field of software development and experience with project technical responsibilities.
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Must be able to bend, lift, stretch, climb, and crawl to maintain equipment and buildings.
· Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.

Salary Range: $180,000 - $240,000
Bonus: 15%
